Kendall is on my lap and my tongue is halfway down her throat, my hand sliding under her sweatshirt, when my phone rings. Dammit. No doubt one of my brothers because their timing is for shit. I’m tempted to ignore it, but it could be Tanner with news of Zanetti.

With a reluctant groan, I grab my phone. “Sorry, sweetheart,” I apologize, and Kendall slides off my lap. “Don’t forget where we left off.” I shoot her a wicked grin, adjust myself and answer Tanner’s call.

“Hey, bro,” Tanner says. “You know how I reached out to my contact in Vegas? Well, he just got back to me.”

“Kendall is here and I’m putting you on speaker,” I tell him and hit the button. “What did you find out?”

“Nothing good.”

I exchange a look with Kendall who looks so worried. I reach for her hand and lace my fingers through hers.

“So, this Alessandro Zanetti is bad news all around. From what I’ve heard, he’s a narcissistic asshole who thinks he’s the Godfather of Las Vegas. Apparently, his uncle is in charge right now. Once he steps aside, he has two options as his predecessor—Alessandro or his cousin, Anthony. The two don’t get along and are in constant competition for their uncle’s approval.” Tanner sighs and I immediately tense.

“What aren’t you saying?” I ask warily. I know my brother and whatever he’s about to tell us isn’t going to be good.

“Their uncle is Mario Dragari.”

“Oh, fuck,” I hiss, my grip tightening on the phone, instantly recognizing the last name.

Kendall frowns, not knowing that the man I killed had the same last name.

“That makes Lorenzo Dragari Mario’s son and cousin to Alessandro and Anthony. Despite what a scumbag he was, it seems that they all loved Lorenzo. And now Mario has declared vengeance and open war on both you and Kendall. Every mafia member is going to be hunting you two down.”

“Mario has that much power?” I ask in disbelief.

“Yes and no,” Tanner responds. “That’s why he announced that whoever finds and delivers you guys will be his replacement when he steps down.”

“Christ,” I hiss.

“Doesn’t matter what their current position is. They deliver you, they shoot right up to the top of the food chain.”

Kendall’s face looks on the verge of crumbling and I want to punch someone. Preferably Mario Dragari or one of his useless nephews.

“This isn’t good,” I murmur.

“No,” Tanner agrees. “It’s not.”

“So, what do you think? Continue to lay low?”

“I don’t know, Sawyer. I mean, the man just offered the keys to his Vegas kingdom to whoever brings you two to him. I don’t think this is going to blow over any time soon. Maybe never.”

I know he’s right. “There has to be something we can do,” I say, racking my brain.

“You—technically we—killed his son, so he’s out for blood. And let’s not forget how Kendall humiliated and outsmarted his nephew with a nice dose of pepper spray. From what I’m hearing, the man wants revenge in the worst kind of way.”

For a moment, none of us says anything.
